Mayfield Arts, with support from the HSE and Cork City Council ran a creative memories project with people from the Mayfield Community. ‘Memories of Mayfield’ gathered local people to share their stories, memories and experiences, photos and memorabilia of Mayfield in days past. From these rich, warm and amusing weekly conversations, we created a body of art work using very accessible art techniques such as dry point etching, photo transfer techniques and textile art. It was fascinating to hear how Mayfield has changed so much in a generation from what was once a country village to what is now a large suburb of Cork city. The wit and warmth of the participants was wonderful and the beautiful memories and artwork they created are inspirational.
The outcomes will go on display at Frank O’Connor Library Mayfield on Tuesday March 22nd at 2pm and on April 11th at Mayfield Arts Centre as part of Life Long Learning festival. All welcome!
